New Jersey 6th Graders Lead Field of 200 for $10,000.00 Top Prize at 2010 National School SCRABBLE(R) Championship in Orlando

ORLANDO, Fla., April 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Proving they have a way with words, Nicholas Vasquez and Jeremy Jeong of Mount Pleasant Middle School in New Jersey, lead after 3 rounds after the first day of the 2010 National School SCRABBLE® Championship (NSSC). The kid word wizards had a perfect 3-0 record with +419 point spread. Second place was held by Ridgefield Library Team #1 from Connecticut with a 3-0 record and a +369 point spread with third place held by Uplands Elementary School Team Marines from Oregon with a 3-0 record and a +363 point spread.

Teams are competing in this eighth annual war of words at the Loews Royal Pacific Resort. Students in grades 5-8 from 20 states, the District of Columbia and Canada play 6 rounds, followed by a final game at 2:30 PM Saturday, April 10, for the $10,000 first prize. The public can view the final round at the hotel with expert commentary on a closed circuit broadcast.
