Bosch Urges Homeowners to Go Green and Save Green This Earth Month

Energy and Water Efficient Appliances Help Save Money and the Environment, Too!

Today's home appliances require up to 75% less energy to operate than appliances 40 years ago when the first Earth Day was celebrated. As the only US manufacturer with entire product lines of ENERGY STAR® qualified dishwashers, washers and refrigeration, Bosch offers some of the most energy and water efficient appliances on the market. With many valuable appliance rebates available at the Bosch Rebate Resource Center, Earth Month is the perfect time to take advantage of the potential money, water and energy savings.

"Earth Month is a reminder for Americans to evaluate their household's eco-footprint and incorporate sustainable practices, like using water and energy efficient home appliances," said John Farley, senior brand and environmental marketing manager, Bosch home appliances. "The Bosch Rebate Resource Center makes it easy to save money while upgrading to water and energy saving appliances by connecting shoppers to current government, local utility and manufacturer rebates."

Older water and energy guzzling appliances have a significant impact on the environment. By upgrading to newer, more efficient appliances, like those from Bosch, homeowners can reduce their water and energy use:

  • Compared to a conventional top-loading washer, front load washers require less water and energy to get clothes clean. For example, Bosch front load Vision washers save 18.4 gallons per load (verses conventional top-loaders). EcoAction further reduces energy consumption with just the simple touch of a button -- up to 20% per wash load and 10% per dry cycle.
  • Dishwashers made before 1994 can use more than 8 gallons of water per cycle. In comparison, the Bosch 800 Plus -- the most efficient dishwasher in the U.S. -- uses as little as 2 gallons of water per cycle, 70 percent less than the average dishwasher today. The 800 Plus is equally as energy-efficient using only 180 kWh/year -- the same as operating a 100 Watt light bulb 5 hours a day for a year.

Bosch is committed to reducing the environmental impact of its products during each phase of their life cycle: manufacturing, everyday use, and subsequent recycling and disposal. Bosch's state-of-the-art factories, including its appliance park in New Bern, NC, has received the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 14001 certification, a worldwide certification that requires a company to meet strict international standards that minimize harmful effects on the environment caused by production. Bosch not only relies on reusable and recyclable materials but also recycles its wood, cardboard, and paper, and even requires its preferred suppliers to adhere to environmental policies similar to its own.
