GreenBytes Targets SMB With Inline Deduplicating SAN and NAS Appliance for Primary Storage and Data Protection Environments
Priced Below $10,000, the GB-1000 Delivers the Same Features as Larger GB-X Series Appliances at Unprecedented Performance/Price Ratio

GreenBytes®, Inc., a developer of
high-performance, energy-efficient inline deduplication data storage
solutions, today unveiled the GB-1000, a four terabyte SSD accelerated SAN
and NAS appliance. The GB-1000 is GreenBytes' latest addition to its GB-X
Series of appliances that feature a next-generation storage architecture
combined with highly innovative software technology and advanced power
management design in an easy-to-use, cost-effective package purpose-built
to bring the efficiencies of data deduplication beyond data protection and
into the primary storage market.
The GB-1000 (http://www.getgreenbytes.com/gb-1000/) features a highly
competitive price point while delivering real-time deduplication and
restore performance. Unlike competing deduplication appliances, the 4TB
GB-1000 provides the performance, as well as connectivity and data
management features that allow it to operate superbly in either data
protection or primary storage environments. Additionally, inline
deduplication, in conjunction with production-level performance, also makes
the GB-1000 ideal for virtualized environments where efficiencies of disk
can reach above 50:1. The GB-1000 multi-protocol storage appliance offers
enterprise-class features including simultaneous support for both SAN and
NAS connectivity, snapshots, remote replication, thin provisioning and a
complete graphical management suite for configuration and system
monitoring.
The GB-1000, when paired with backup software offerings such as those from
Symantec, CommVault, BakBone, LaserVault and others, makes all the benefits
of inline deduplicated disk-based backup an economic reality for the SMB.
And with its extensive capabilities and features, the GB-1000 is also ideal
for primary storage use in remote office applications, as well as
departmental and multi-office backup and tape consolidation environments.
"With the introduction of the GB-1000, GreenBytes has designed an appliance
that provides flexibility, ease of management, consistent performance, and
the efficiencies of inline deduplication to storage administrators in the
currently underserved SMB market," said Noemi Greyzdorf, research manager,
IDC. "Market dynamics are driving businesses to demand more from their IT,
and with its GB-X Series of NAS and SAN storage appliances, GreenBytes is
delivering capital and operational cost savings while addressing emerging
storage challenges with a clean-slate storage architecture."
GB-1000 Specifications:
-- Form Factor: 1U chassis, 6GB RAM
-- Capacity: 8 drive slots with 2.5" 500GB drives for 4TB total capacity
-- Scalability: Starting at 4TB with further scalability via enhanced disk
drive densities
-- Ingest and Restore Rate: Starting at 150MB/s = 0.54TB/hr
"Seven Group is very excited about the release of the GB-1000 as we believe
it perfectly addresses the demands of branch offices and departmental
requirements at a new, game-changing price point," said Douglas Atkinson,
chief technology officer, Seven Group. "The GB-1000 nicely dovetails the
GB-2000 and GB-4000 series platforms already available, and provides one of
the most cost-effective hub and spoke architectures in the industry. Where
there has previously been a significant gap, the GB-1000 now addresses the
specific needs of the SME customer with its features, performance and
price."
GreenBytes GB-X Series
GreenBytes' GB-X Series (http://www.getgreenbytes.com/products), which also
includes the GB-2000 (http://www.getgreenbytes.com/gb-2000/) and GB-4000
(http://www.getgreenbytes.com/gb-4000/), features general-purpose storage
appliances that incorporate native inline deduplication into an
enterprise-scale file system. Unlike other deduplication technologies that
are primarily used only for backup operations, GreenBytes has created
storage appliances that permit
real-time, on-the-fly deduplication of file blocks as they are stored,
expanding the scope of applications into primary storage, as well as
backup.
GreenBytes' GB-X Series of next-generation, high-performance inline
deduplicating storage appliances provide organizations with significant
advantages over traditional storage solutions:
-- Unmatched inline deduplication ingestion and restore performance
-- All software features included at no additional charge including:
remote replication, thin provisioning, snapshot, Symantec OST plug-in,
etc.
-- Flexible architecture supporting simultaneous SAN and NAS deployments
(iSCSI, CIFS and NFS)
-- Seamlessly scalable storage pools delivering the market's largest
inline deduplicated capacity
-- Purpose-built hardware combined with MAID software intelligence for the
lowest energy consumption/TB footprint available anywhere
-- High availability and reliability via: system redundancies; hot
swappable components; synchronous and asynchronous replication;
snapshots, etc.
"The GB-1000 delivers all the performance, features, total cost of
ownership and return on investment advantages of our other GB-X Series
appliances, but in a smaller, more cost-effective package," said Bob
Petrocelli, chief executive officer, GreenBytes. "The performance to price
ratio of the GB-1000 is extremely compelling, especially for smaller
enterprises, and we expect this will create additional opportunities in new
markets."
GreenBytes product is backed by a strong warranty and a world-class
7x24x365 customer support network.
