PLF Mourns Actor Fess Parker, Former PLF Trustee

  Share With Friends

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - (BUSINESS WIRE) - The board members and staff of Pacific Legal Foundation today expressed sorrow over the passing of renowned actor and community leader Fess Parker, who was a former member of PLF's Board of Trustees and a strong, longtime supporter of the Foundation. Parker passed away today at his home in the Santa Ynez Valley, California. He was 85.

"Fess Parker entertained and inspired two generations of Americans with uplifting portrayals of American frontier heroes, Davy Crockett and Daniel Boone," said PLF President Rob Rivett. "Fess' life off screen was just as inspiring. He was a steadfast patriot, a visionary businessman, a caring family man, and a dedicated civic leader.

"A great example of Fess Parker's dedication to community and to the cause of freedom was his strong support of Pacific Legal Foundation over the years. He hosted PLF fund-raising functions at his winery, and he served on PLF's Board of Trustees for five years, from 1990 to 1995.

"PLF is America's leading legal defender of property rights and limited government, and Fess told us clearly that this is why he befriended us so enthusiastically."

As Fess put it in PLF's October, 2006 newsletter http://community.pacificlegal.org/Document.Doc?id=416: "Property rights are the cornerstone of our freedom. Property rights are important to everyone . . . . Property makes us self-sufficient Americans who can stand tall, provide for our families, build a future, and create a legacy. Government may chip away at these rights, but the Constitution gives protection - a line that bureaucrats can't cross." Fess Parker expressed similar sentiments in PLF's 35th Anniversary video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HnBSlRQwxKU.

"Fess Parker liked to quote a motto from Davy Crockett: 'Be sure you're right, then go ahead,'" said Rob Rivett. "Following that maxim made him a success as an actor, businessman, family man - and an inspirational American patriot."

"All of PLF's staff are grateful for Fess Parker's support and friendship. We extend our condolences to his family, while joining them in remembering a man who was a hero in every sense."
