West Hollywood Mayor Pro Tempore John Heilman and West Hollywood City Manager Paul Arevalo to Run the 2010 Honda Los Angeles Marathon "Stadium to the Sea" Course Through West Hollywood on Sunday, March 21, 2010
WEST HOLLYWOOD, Calif. - (BUSINESS WIRE) - West Hollywood Mayor Pro Tempore John Heilman and West Hollywood City
Manager Paul Arevalo will participate in the 2010 Honda Los Angeles
Marathon on Sunday, March 21, 2010. Both West Hollywood Mayor Pro
Tempore John Heilman and West Hollywood City Manager Paul Arevalo are
accomplished marathon runners who have each raised
hundreds-of-thousands-of-dollars for the fight against HIV and AIDS
epidemic and AIDS Project Los Angeles (APLA). For the first time in its
25 year history, the L.A. Marathon is a sold out event. The "Stadium to
the Sea" course will pass through West Hollywood and will draw 25,000
runners to the iconic Sunset Strip.
The 2010 Honda Los Angeles Marathon start line is located at Dodger
Stadium and the finish is located on Ocean Avenue at Santa Monica
Boulevard in the City of Santa Monica. The 26.2 mile course will tour
historical landmarks in the City of Los Angeles and lead runners through
legendary West Hollywood in mile thirteen through mile fifteen of the
race.
"We are truly excited about the LA Marathon running through West
Hollywood," said West Hollywood Mayor Abbe Land. "The runners will
really enjoy a route that takes them down West Hollywood's legendary
Sunset Strip before heading over to the equally famous Santa Monica
Boulevard. Our business community is working to maximize their
visibility as they best serve residents and visitors alike on race day.
It's going to be a great marathon for all involved," Mayor Land
continued.
Several entertainment points including block parties, a DJ booth and
mile markers will be located in West Hollywood. The two West
Hollywood block parties will take place from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m., and
will feature live music, radio remotes, food and beverage sampling and
product giveaways. Admission is free and open to the public.
West Hollywood block parties, DJ booth, and inflatable mile markers
will be placed at the following locations:

Block party adjacent to Cabo Cantina, 8301 Sunset Boulevard

Block party in front of the Pavilions store, 8969 Santa Monica
Boulevard

DJ booth at mile 13.5, located on the southeast corner of Sunset
Boulevard and La Cienega Boulevard

Inflatable mile marker for Mile 13, located at Sunset Boulevard and
Roxbury Avenue

Inflatable mile marker for Mile 14, located at Sunset Boulevard and
Horn Avenue
The marathon runners will enter West Hollywood at Sunset Boulevard, and
Havenhurst Drive on the city's eastside and head west on the iconic
Sunset Boulevard passing by several historical landmarks including the
art deco architectural wonder Sunset Tower; rock & roll legends Whisky a
Go Go and the Viper Room; turn left onto San Vicente Boulevard and right
onto eclectic Santa Monica Boulevard also known as Route 66, past the
famous Troubadour; exiting West Hollywood at Doheny Drive into Beverly
Hills.
Due to the 2010 Honda Los Angeles Marathon, the following streets will
be temporarily CLOSED as follows:

Sunset Boulevard from Havenhurst Drive to Doheny Drive on Sunday,
March 21, 2010 from 4 a.m. to 12 p.m.

San Vicente Boulevard from Sunset Boulevard to Melrose Avenue on
Sunday, March 21, 2010 from 4 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Santa Monica Boulevard from La Cienega Avenue to Doheny Drive on
Sunday, March 21, 2010 from 4 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Doheny Drive from Santa Monica Boulevard to West Beverly Drive on
Sunday, March 21, 2010 from 4 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Parking will not be allowed along the race course. "No Parking" signs
will be posted before the event. Vehicles in violation will be ticketed
and towed at the owner's expense.
