Attack on Iran - Preparations Complete!
By Ian Brockwell
In an article by the Sunday Herald "Final destination Iran?" it was revealed that hundreds of "bunker-buster" bombs are being shipped from the United States to the British island of Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean, to prepare for what is believed to be a plan to destroy "10,000 targets" in Iran.
Speculation about an attack on Iran, either by the US or Israel (or both) has been reported on for some time, but there has never been sufficient evidence to support such an attack.
Even though Iran has been accused of allegedly trying to create a nuclear weapon, there is no proof to confirm this. However, this has not stopped the constant accusations, or the numerous attempts to make a connection between Iran and almost every "terrorist" action imaginable.
It is still unclear what grounds the United States (or Israel) would have for making such an attack, bearing in mind the lack of actual proof, and one must assume that this "detail" will be rectified shortly, just as it was for the attack on Iraq.
We can therefore expect some news soon that will attempt to incriminate Iran (beyond public expectations), to provide a "valid" reason for such action. This could take the form of some attack on a US naval ship, or maybe some terrorist act on the US or Israeli mainland? Needless to say, this will be blamed on Iran and some dubious evidence will be supplied as usual.
Although many believe the United States will make the first move, we can probably expect Israel to become involved shortly afterwards.
The public must try and remember that an attack on Iran has a twofold purpose. The first is to try and create a regime change in Iran, to enable countries like the US and Britain to regain control of the oil there (as they did before). The second reason is to eliminate a potential military opponent of Israel and allow them to have complete military supremacy in the Middle East.
It seems strange that so many people are concerned about the possibility of Iran obtaining a nuclear weapon, yet do not question how Israel were allowed to amass more than 200 of their own.
The Iranian president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, has been reported as saying that he expects an attack on his country between Spring and Summer of this year, and it looks as if he may well be right.
Such an attack may be devastating, but I suspect Iran will still manage to make a response. Any retaliation by Iran is likely to be aimed at Israel, who it will see as a major player in this offensive. This will of course produce many casualties and you can expect many leading figures in Israel to leave the country before any attack takes place (something to watch for).
It is hoped that any country attacking another (without good reason) would be shunned by the international community. But as we have seen from the illegal wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, those guilty of ordering the invasion have escaped without penalty and no one seems brave enough to put a stop to this madness.
My sympathies go out to all the innocent lives that will be lost in an attack on Iran, no matter what side suffers these losses. Unfortunately, the people who start these wars seem to care very little about such things.
