Server System InfrastructureSM Forum Announces Enterprise Electronics Bay 2011 Specification
SAN RAMON, Calif. - (BUSINESS WIRE) - The Server System InfrastructureSM Forum (SSI), a leading
server industry group that drives server form factor standards, today
announced the release of Enterprise Electronics Bay (EEB) 2011
Specification Rev 1.0. Led by the SSI Forum's Server Work Group (SWG),
EEB 2011 Rev 1.0 is the latest update to the widely-used specification
and is designated for 2011 Xeon products.
EEB 2011 Rev 1.0 provides board sizes, mounting locations, and connector
definitions to support the interoperability of SSI-compliant components
integrated in dual-socket Xeon servers and workstations for the rack and
pedestal market segments. The EEB 2011 Specification also contains Thin
Electronics Bay (TEB) and Compact Electronics Bay (CEB) form factors.
"The SSI Forum's standards allow vendors like us to focus on our core
competencies, rather than spending time creating custom partnerships
with suppliers that will support our unique designs," said Albert Mu,
Vice President of Enterprise Business Unit of MiTAC International
Corporation. "Additionally, without the support of the SSI Forum, server
products would cost more and offer far less choices in the channels. The
release of EEB 2011 Rev 1.0 will help us to provide the industry with a
ready ecosystem that supports multiple boards, chassis and power
supplies."
"The EEB 2011 Specification supports the interchangeable board, chassis
and power supply co-development model critical to channels suppliers and
system integrators," said Thomas Holden, SWG chairman, SSI Forum. "EEB
has a significant adoption rate in the server industry, and since its
introduction in 1999, we have updated each processor generation to keep
it current."
"I applaud the efforts of the SSI Forum's cross-industry SWG and highly
encourage those companies interested in becoming directly involved in
future specification development to join the SSI Forum and its working
groups," said Jim Ryan, chairman, SSI Forum.
The EEB and CEB form factors are supported by Intel Customer Reference
Board (CRB) designs and collateral. Please contact your Intel
representative for more information. Registered members of the SSI Forum
can download the new specification at www.ssiforum.org.
About the SSI Forum
Established in 1998, the Server System Infrastructure (SSI) Forum is a
leading server industry group that drives server infrastructure
standards. Now with over 35 members worldwide, the SSI Forum creates
standards for redundant server power systems, rack-mount server chassis,
power control and management, and other components and services that
simplify the build of server solutions. The SSI Forum recently extended
its focus to include blade-based server standards that address customer
and ecosystem challenges. SSI's goal is to enable future server market
growth by standardizing interfaces between components, including boards,
chassis, and power supplies, and by developing common server hardware
elements. More information is available at www.ssiforum.org.
