The Video Workflow Automation Platform Successfully Powered 4,483 Hours of NBC and CTV's 2010 Winter Olympics Online Video Content

iStreamPlanet announced today it has developed an end-to-end, cloud-based platform designed to enable linear or ad-hoc broadcasters, content creators, or anyone with a large number of events or multiple channels to automatically schedule, provision and publish content to multiple screen experiences, including desktop, IPTV and mobile. iStreamPlanet's Video Workflow Automation Platform (VWAP) was responsible for helping power the online coverage of NBC's and CTV's online 2010 Winter Olympics broadcasts. The recent 17 day event included 4,483 hours of Olympics content spread over 834 events that iStreamPlanet's VWAP delivered with a 100 percent success rate, proving both the scalability and reliability of the product.

Now that the Winter Olympics have concluded, iStreamPlanet has productized this technology for all broadcasters and other content rights holders. The VWAP enables iStreamPlanet's customers to scale and operate their live online video operations in a way that removes errors and requires no human intervention or additional personnel as the number of channels or live events grow.

"Our customers have come to expect iStreamPlanet to continue to innovate and provide the very best solutions available. For the Olympics and beyond, our focus was to design and develop a product that will simplify video workflow and solve scalability and reliability issues with conducting a large number of live events," said Mio Babic, CEO, iStreamPlanet. "By integrating the Video Workflow Automation with Internet Information Services (IIS) Media Services we have created the most advanced fully automated HD media delivery platform capable of delivering any number of live channels or events."

"Microsoft was proud to work with iStreamPlanet in order to help bring the 2010 Winter Olympics to online fans through the U.S. and Canada with Silverlight and IIS Smooth Streaming," said Steve Sklepowich, director for Silverlight at Microsoft Corp. "iStreamPlanet's Video Workflow Automation Platform was a reliable and essential resource during the online delivery of the Olympics enabling the delivery of HD-quality live and on-demand video to millions of viewers."

VWAP provides broadcasters the ability to schedule live broadcasts, automatically or manually, acquire content, route video, automate control over all publishing points, provisioning and starting/stopping encoders, failover and redundancy for both content acquisition and encoding, live to video-on-demand transitioning, and intelligent resource management. From there, VWAP provides a fully redundant, cloud-based content origination service optimized for IIS Smooth Streaming, and coupled with real-time performance monitoring, maintenance and health-checks of the Origin resources for optimized and scalable Origin services.
