OmniPeace Partnership Delivers 500 T-Shirts to Women of Congo's Panzi Hospital
LOS ANGELES - (BUSINESS WIRE) - OmniPeace, the humanitarian fashion brand, has established an ongoing
partnership with Ms. Cheree McAlpine, Silicon Valley leader and General
Counsel at Wyse Technology, to increase support to the women of Congo.
To kick-off the partnership, OmniPeace founder Mary Fanaro and Ms.
McAlpine organized a delivery of over 500 OmniPeace t-shirts to the
women and girls of Dr. Mukwege's Panzi Hospital in Eastern Congo, as
part of OmniPeace's "Stamp Out Violence Against Women and Girls in the
Congo" campaign. This is the first of many initiatives on behalf of the
partnership, which hopes to continue to bring attention to the crisis in
Congo as well as the work of the Panzi Hospital and UNICEF and the V Day
Foundation's City of Joy.
The Panzi hospital in Eastern Congo treats thousands of victims and
provides a refuge for women escaping the epidemic of violence in the
region. The hospital's victims range in age, treating girls younger than
10 all the way up to women in their eighties. More than a gift to the
women of the hospital, the t-shirts symbolize awareness and support for
the fight against violence committed towards women in the region. The
OmniPeace brand is a recognized symbol of solidarity and reminder that
the world has not forgotten about the women in Congo.
"My husband is Congolese and I have many family and friends in Congo. I
was drawn to Mary Fanaro's mission at OmniPeace because it attracts a
wide audience to the problems in Africa and allows people to help in
large and small ways," said Cheree McAlpine. "I have witnessed and heard
numerous personal stories about the atrocities and devastation that have
occurred against women in the Eastern Congo region, and I know that even
the smallest effort can have a huge impact on people's lives. I am happy
that I can bring support to Congo as the Panzi Hospital is a true refuge
for women who have been victims of the extreme violence in the region."
Founder of OmniPeace Mary Fanaro adds, "This delivery not only allows us
to once again bring attention to the crisis in Congo which is so often
underreported, but thanks to Cheree's support we were able to deliver
gifts to the women at the Panzi Hospital as well, and any opportunity we
have to bring more positivity to their experience we, and they,
appreciate so much."
OmniPeace has led the "Stamp Out Violence Against Women and Girls in the
Congo" campaign since June 2009. As part of the campaign, the
humanitarian fashion brand is donating 25% of their profits to the City
of Joy in Congo, as well as raising awareness about issues surrounding
conflict minerals and violence against women via viral video, social
media and relationships with compassionate and action-minded businesses
and business leaders such as Ms. McAlpine.
