North Eastern girls continue to face sexual harassment in Delhi and the National capital.
A panic has spread once again among North East young girls due to this molestation case last night. In Murnika, the number of sexual harassment cases increased last year, until a 19-year-old Naga girl was murdered in October. That incident finally attracted the attention of Delhi police, and the Delhi government and there were calls to allow zero tolerance of racial harassment faced by North East communities.
According to the source that reported this recent case to North East Support Centre & Helpline, the incident happened around midnight yesterday. The 22-year-old girl, from the Hrmar tribe in Manipur went to the bus stop to pick up her younger sister, who was returning from her work. The girl was molested by a man of about 28-years old, who was known to the victim. When she called out, her friends, who were nearby, came forward to help her. They caught the accused, and handed him over to Vasant Vihar police station, and gave verbal complaints.
This morning, the North East Support Centre & Helpline reported that the Vansant Vihar police station indicated that a First Information Report No. 71/2010 was registered against the accused.
