Grenade Explosions Kill Soldier, Injure 7 in Kashmir

Srinagar, March 14: The militants on Sunday targeted Indian paramilitary soldiers by hurling two grenades on them in Kashmir. A paramilitary soldier was killed and seven others including two civilians injured in the explosions.
A police officer said militants lobbed a grenade towards paramilitary CRPF personnel at Zaina-Kadal, some 5 kms from the summer capital Srinagar on Sunday afternoon. "The grenade exploded with a big bang, injuring six paramilitary soldiers. They were taken to the hospital, where one of the critically injured Mohan Lal succumbed to injuries.
The condition of another injured soldier has been termed as critical by the doctors," a senior police officer said.
Pro-Pakistan militant outfit Hizbul Mujahideen has owned the responsibility of the attack. A spokesman of the outfit, Ahsan Illahi called local news gathering agencies in Srinagar and owned responsibility of the attack
Meanwhile, militants hurled a grenade towards a moving paramilitary vehicle at Ashpeer, Sopore some 54 kms North of Srinagar. The grenade, however, missed the intended target and exploded on the road, causing injuries to civilians. They were rushed to the hospital. One of the critically injured has been referred to Srinagar hospital for specialized treatment.
After the explosion, police and paramilitary soldiers laid siege around the area. However, no arrests were reported.
