DST: Move Clocks An Hour Forward & Check Smoke Detectors

It's Daylight Savings Time (DST) in the nation, a time when we move our clocks an hour forward. Today is a reminder that spring is right around the corner, and that conjures up images of spring cleaning, flowers blooming, and warm pleasant days.

But DST should also be a reminder to check or smoke detectors.

According to the International Association of Fire Chiefs we should check the smoke detector batteries every six months, when did you last check them? You can own a state-of-the-art smoke detector, but if the battery is dead it won't do you any good.

It only takes a second to test your smoke detector, a second that can save you years of regret and disappointment if a fire destroys your home.

Sometimes smoke detectors can be a pain in the neck, going off every time you cook a meal. OK, maybe it's just me, I'm a lousy cook. But they also save lives and protect property.

One time I borrowed the battery from the smoke detector to power an electronic device, it was weeks before I remembered to replace the battery in the smoke detector. I'm probably not the only one who has done that, let's get our priorities in order.

DST: Change the time on your clocks, and change the batteries on your smoke detectors.
