NCKU Center for Creativity, Innovation and Entrepreneurship Inspired INNOVA Studio in Developing Functional Masks
TAINAN, Taiwan - (BUSINESS WIRE) - The Center for Creativity, Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CIE Center)
of National Cheng Kung University, Taiwan, has inspired the thinking and
imagination of many students. Four students, Yi-Cheng Chen and Kuan-Ting
Tsai of the NCKU Department of Physics, together with Ya-Ju Chang of the
Department of Applied Music, Tainan National University of the Arts, and
Hsiang-Ting Lin of the Department of English, National University of
Tainan, have established a creative studio, INNOVA, which designs
innovative products for the convenience of the community.
During season change, when flu prevails, almost everyone wears a mask.
Some only wear a single cloth mask, and some wear an activated carbon
mask with cloth mask. The INNOVA team came up with the idea of combining
cloth with activated carbon, and eventually developed a beautiful cloth
mask which contained two inner lining cloths for placing activated
carbon mask or tissue, a feature extremely popular among women. Because
the exterior cloth is carefully selected, it is hard to find the same
design on the streets. When 200 masks with distinguished style were
first released, they received high praise. They are not only popular
among friends and relatives, they are well-liked by the creative market
as well. The Office of Student Affairs, NCKU, has also ordered 2,500
masks as gifts for the upcoming Student Forum event.
In the financial and marketing aspects, the team members used their own
money and applied various creative methods to prove the feasibility of
the implementation of the CIE Program. Yi-Cheng Chen, Vice President
Finance of the Member Committee of AIESEC in Taiwan, expressed, "Because
I learned a lot from the Creative Marketing course of the CIE Program, I
wanted to imitate the course content and apply it practically. With this
idea in mind, I began searching for students with the same interest. The
first person I found was my junior colleague Kuan-Ting Tsai from the
same department, Department of Physics. Later, I found two more students
outside school whom I met through school activities. The studio then
began to operate and develop with the four of us."
The activated carbon cloth mask is the first innovation product of
INNOVA. This mask is a functional mask which will benefit the community
and bring convenience to the people. "We believe, with endless
creativity and daring spirit, products designed for people's convenience
will be developed. We do not only observe the smallest details of
inconvenience in life, most importantly, we transform them into
creativity and practicality," said the team.
Dr. Shyh-nan Liou, Director of Center for Creativity, Innovation and
Entrepreneurship and Associate Professor of Institute of Creative
Industry Design, NCKU, emphasized, "The inventive dreams of young people
need to be encouraged and supported. The CIE Center plays an important
role in inspiring creative ideas and cultivating innovative spirit in
the campus. It is expected that the successful implementation experience
of INNOVA studio will open a creative window for students with ideas and
dreams."
