Mother's Day 2010 Launches the "Decade of the Intentional Mom"

Suggesting a fresh approach to Mother's Day, Catherine Hickem, L.C.S.W., founder of the non-profit organization, Intentional Moms (IM!), challenges moms to think beyond breakfast-in-bed, embracing a strategic focus on longterm goals. Declaring the "Decade of the Intentional Mom," Hickem seeks to reach moms nationwide with her message of hope and encouragement.

To underscore this mission, she is expanding the organization's "Intentional Mom of
the Year" award, using criteria based on her book "Raising Your Children With No Regrets: 7 Principles of an Intentional Mother." IM! will encourage voting for a favorite among the winners at www.intentionalmoms.org from April 1st until Mother's Day. Award criteria include being intentional about:

--  Understanding a mom's purpose
--  Being a student of one's child
--  Being a vision keeper for the child
--  Assisting the child in developing emotional intelligence
--  Maintaining one's position
--  Being intentional
--  Relying on one's faith for strength and support

Hickem is a licensed psychotherapist who specializes in working with moms; she is also an established corporate coach.

"If you ask any corporate executive how to achieve business goals, you will be told that sound strategy is key," said Hickem. "So why not employ this philosophy with your most precious assets, your children?"

In establishing the Decade of the Intentional Mom, Hickem addresses the unique needs of moms through filters that include: birth moms; adoptive, single, and military moms; moms of special needs children; moms in pain; and moms in nuclear families. The campaign will provide resources for moms through the IM! website and published materials, seminars, and social networking sites.

Mother of an adopted son and birth daughter, Hickem uses her own personal experience and her clinical and business coaching background to inform her work. Hickem's seminars, which can be tailored to secular or faith-based audiences, address: "7 Principles of Intentional Moms," "How to Raise Emotionally Intelligent Children," and "7 Secrets of Parenting Your Adult Children."
