And Justice for All: Lawyers Serve Those Who Need it Most
ONTARIO, Calif. - (BUSINESS WIRE) - Millions of Americans each year who need legal representation do not
have access to adequate services, an impact felt largely among the poor
and groups such as immigrants, children and the disabled. For many who
study law, there is a sense of duty to ensure that everyone has access
to justice. For others, it becomes their purpose.
University
of La Verne College of Law encourages all of its students to answer
the call early and work with public interest organizations during law
school, join student groups interested in legal justice, or pursue
public interest law as a specialty.
"Attorneys have a professional responsibility to help those in need,"
says August Farnsworth, Assistant Dean of Career Services and
Professional Development at La Verne Law. "It is not only important to
instill this value from the very first day of law school, but also helps
students find opportunities that help them serve those who need it the
most."
Working with public interest organizations while in law school builds a
student's professional skills, while also immerses them amidst the
struggles of the less fortunate. Students who specialize in public
interest law often ultimately work to provide services and counsel to
these underrepresented groups.
