The Media is Invited to a Golden Anniversary for Olympic Gold Medal Bobsled Driver: Steve Holcomb Celebrates Two Years of Restored Sight
LOS ANGELES - (BUSINESS WIRE) - On Wednesday, March 10, 2010, Olympic gold medalist Steve Holcomb will
celebrate two full years of restored vision and new Olympic Gold with
the final eye exam administered by Steve's world renowned eye surgeon,
Dr. Brian Boxer Wachler.
Steve Holcomb made history February 27, 2010, by driving his legendary
bobsled named the "Night Train" to Olympic Gold, winning the first U.S.
4-man Bobsled event in 62 years. Moments after the victory Steve Holcomb
hugged Dr. Brian Boxer Wachler side-line for helping him see his dream
come true.
We invite the media to join in this historic Olympic accomplishment and
learn how Dr. Boxer Wachler restored Holcomb's vision that allowed him
to see Olympic Gold.
Unbeknownst to fans, Holcomb had been battling a degenerative eye
disease known as Keratoconus, which left him legally blind and forced
him to officially abandon his Olympic dreams and leave the sport in 2007.
Fortunately, Holcomb's coaches discovered Dr. Brian Boxer Wachler and
the breakthrough, non-invasive C3-R procedure that saved Holcomb from a
painful and invasive cornea transplant. Dr. Boxer Wachler performed C3-R
and insertable contact lens procedures which brought Holcomb's eyesight
from a non-functional 20/500 to a perfect 20/20, allowing him to compete
in the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics and win Gold. Now, two years after
undergoing the C3-R procedure, Holcomb is returning for his two year
final examination follow up to confirm that his Keratoconus is
permanently cured - and he will be showing his new gold medal to Dr.
Boxer Wachler and the media.
"The moment Steve crossed the finish line I was overcome with emotion,"
says Dr. Brian Boxer Wachler. "I am so honored to have been a part of
the Olympic experience, watching Steve win the Gold has inspired me to
continue to develop new procedures. It is moments like this that remind
me why I became a doctor."
Since the widely publicized success of Holcomb's vision treatment, the
Boxer Wachler Vision Institute has been flooded with emails, letters,
and phone calls from people all over who battle Keratoconus. Holcomb's
uplifting story has been an inspiration to sufferers who now have faith
that non-invasive treatments can help them repair their sight. It has
been a dramatic transformation for the 29-year old bobsled driver, and
this week he's proud to celebrate with Dr. Brian Boxer Wachler as they
prove to Keratoconus patients everywhere that long-term restoration of
their vision is possible.
