Satan - Alive and Well!
By Ian Brockwell
Many of you may remember a time when the news used to include "happy" stories, although this was so long ago, there are few of us left who can remember that far back.
Have things got so bad that there isn't any good news remaining, or do the media prefer to concentrate on the stories that reveal the worst aspects of society?
Personally, I believe things have got much worse, but the media do seem to take some pleasure in promoting the worst of these events. Perhaps this is because the public still have an almost instinctive love of evil?
Very few will admit to it, but they secretly enjoy watching films where people are killing each other. They watch car races in the hope of seeing a fatal crash; they obtain some dark thrill at watching someone being tortured or raped, and have an unhealthy interest in areas that are totally unacceptable in normal life, but why?
Many centuries ago the Romans used to throw Christians to the Lions, watched with amusement by huge audiences in Arenas. Public hangings also drew large crowds, who treated the event almost like a trip to the theatre.
Whilst some of us have successfully managed to conceal these barbaric tastes, they still remain deep within us, often substituted by what we consider to be less harmful alternatives (violent movies and video games, sex films and books, wrestling, boxing and other blood sports). We only have to look at the biggest selling movies and video games to confirm our interest in violence, and sex is still the most searched topic on the internet.
Clearly, the increased exposure to sex and violence over the last 50 years has a lot to do with the increased crime in these areas, but is this problem self-inflicted, or does someone (or some people) have a hand in this?
Although some wars appear unavoidable, that cannot be said of the recent conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan, which were created to steal the oil from its rightful owners and clear a path for oil pipelines, and of course to lessen the military competition for Israel.
However, the violence isn't just in the Middle East, we are seeing this increase in many other parts of the world (although mainly in western countries like the US and Britain). It may be my imagination, but the number of news reports that mention a parent killing their children and partners (before committing suicide) has grown dramatically.
There also seems to be a higher number of paedophiles amongst us than ever before, and I wrote about one such victim recently: "The Curious (and shocking) Case of Hollie Greig". The crime against Hollie was bad enough, but the people alleged to be involved in this crime included an Aberdeen Sheriff and a police officer. A reporter investigating this crime was arrested and the following day "was taken before a colleague of the Sheriff who was named as a key player in this Paedophile ring"
One story that has been hitting the headlines in the British press concerns a killer called Jon Venables, who was jailed in 1993 (at the age of ten) for the horrific killing of James Bulger, aged two. He was later released on a life licence in 2001.
Venables has now been returned to prison for apparently violating the terms of his release, although the Justice Secretary, Jack Straw, will not release details of the offence Venables may have committed. As a result, there is a great deal of media speculation.
Whilst every criminal should be given a chance of rehabilitation (especially minors), in truth only a very small percentage of those who have committed these horrific crimes can ever be released safely back into society. Unfortunately, the people who make the decisions, on whether to release these criminals or not, seem to have very little understanding of their mentality, or are easily fooled.
Sadly, the officials who make the mistake of allowing dangerous criminals back onto our streets (often to commit exactly the same offence), should face much stricter penalties for their errors and maybe this would make them think more carefully, and eliminate some of the risk that is placed on the public.
Unfortunately, opportunities to reduce the risks are either missed, or purposely ignored. Just today, Peter Chapman was sentenced to life in prison for kidnapping, raping and murdering 17 year old Ashleigh Hall, who he arranged to meet after making contact on Facebook. It turns out that Chapman was a "serial sex offender", yet because of some people's obsession to "do the right thing", we were not warned about this, and he was able to commit an even more terrible crime.
Perhaps someone should create a social networking site that checks the criminal record of those who wish to join? This would provide increased security and attract more normal members. It may not attract the numbers currently seen on places like Facebook, but it would certainly appeal to some.
Although the general public may not be directly responsible for all the violent films available, or indeed the authorities who let killers and sex offenders free before they should, they could do much more.
Instead of displaying "shock and horror" when someone commits a violent crime or sex offence, perhaps they should make themselves heard BEFORE it actually happens? This can be done by trying to change existing laws and voting for political parties that promise to do this (not just voting for those the media select for you). Parents can play a much bigger part by "guiding" their children, and protecting them more from the violence that surrounds us.
Ultimately, we should question the motives of those who supply this mind corrupting material and the people who promote it. This is where the true problems lies, and if you were to research the film makers, the promoters, and the politicians who create the laws to make it all possible, you would very quickly see a connection between this and many of the other problems facing our world.
Whether these people are carrying out some satanic plan, or they are "Satan" does not matter, as the result is much the same. This group, like all groups who seek to control, are always a minority. The public has the power to change the evil that we see, but the question is, do they really want to?
