Good Samaritan Recognized
On Tuesday March 9th at 6:30 pm, the Folsom Police Department and the Folsom City Council will recognize Mr. Todd McHugh of Citrus Heights for his brave actions on February 15th at 7:17 pm. That evening, seventeen year old McHugh was driving northbound on Folsom Blvd when he witnessed a small SUV leave the roadway and become stuck on the Regional Transit light rail tracks that run horizontally along Folsom Blvd south of the Iron Point Road station.
Without regard for his personal safety, Mr. McHugh stopped and approached the disabled vehicle. The driver, still dazed by the collision and air bag deployment, remained in her vehicle until McHugh led her and her two young children to safety.
Within two minutes of leading the three away from the wrecked vehicle and the train tracks, a Regional Transit light rail commuter train heading northbound into Folsom collided with the disabled vehicle. The vehicle received major damage before being pushed 60-100 feet from where the collision occurred.
Mr. McHugh's quick thinking and selfless response to a dangerous situation prevented this non-injury collision from ending with tragic consequences.
The Folsom City Council chambers are located at 50 Natoma Street in Folsom. This regularly scheduled council meeting is open to the public.
