Ahmadinejad Remarks 'Appalling and Disgraceful' Group Says

NEW YORK, March 6 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Leaders of MyGoodDeed (911dayofservice.org), the nonprofit organization that guided the successful campaign to establish September 11 as a National Day of Service and Remembrance, today criticized statements made this week by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who called the 9/11 attacks a "big lie."

"This is a man who doesn't believe the Holocaust happened, who suppresses the human rights of his own people, and who has repeatedly attempted to deceive the entire world about the extent and intentions of his nation's nuclear weapons program," said David Paine, president and co-founder of MyGoodDeed. "The only big lie we can see is President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad himself.

"His comments are an appalling and disgraceful affront to many families who suffered the loss of loved ones on 9/11 at the hands of mass murders, and those who continue to defend this nation on the field of battle," Paine added. "While some might say it is better not to even respond to inflammatory comments like these, it is vital to continually challenge every time anyone disputes the facts of the 9/11 attack. The record is very clear: Thousands of innocent people were killed on 9/11, including Americans and others from more than 90 countries, as a result of a carefully planned and orchestrated terrorist attack perpetrated by murderous individuals manipulated by the same type of hate and propaganda that appears to infect the mind of President Ahmadinejad."

MyGoodDeed Inc., (911dayofservice.org) was founded in 2002 by Paine and Jay Winuk with the support of 22 9/11 organizations. Winuk lost his brother Glenn Winuk, an attorney and volunteer EMT, in the 9/11 attacks. In 2009 9/11 was officially recognized by the federal government as a National Day of Service and Remembrance, when President Barack Obama signed in law the Edward M. Kennedy ServeAmerica Act on April 21, 2009. Prominent advisory board members of MyGoodDeed include actor Gary Sinise, U.S. Senator Charles Schumer (D-New York), and U.S. Representative Peter King (R-Long Island). Last year more than five million individuals from all 50 states and 195 countries engaged in charitable service projects and good deeds in observance of the eight anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.
