By Fayaz Wani
Srinagar, March 6: A high level meeting on Saturday discussed the prevailing security scenario in Kashmir, which has been witnessing surge in militant violence.
"To review the existing security situation in Kashmir, a Core Group Meeting was held at Srinagar. The meeting was co-chaired by Lt Gen NC Marwah, GoC 15 Corps Chinar and Kuldeep Khoda police chief. The high level meeting was attended by Senior Officers of the Army, Police, CRPF, BSF Intelligence Agencies and Civil Administration," Indian army spokesman, Lt Col J S Brar said.
He said the deliberations during the meeting focussed on the proposed strategy to be adopted to further harmonise and synergise conduct of joint operations between the security forces and address critical areas of concern.
Sources said the senior security officials also discussion the infiltration issue and collateral damage caused during recent gunfights. In a recent gunfight at Chinkipora, Sopore, some 54 kms North of Srinagar, at least 32 residential houses were damaged allegedly by Indian soldiers. Four soldiers including an officer and two militants were killed in the gunfight.
Today's meeting was the first meeting after recent fierce gunfights in Kashmir.
