Braemar Energy Ventures' Dennis Costello Named to Advisory Council of the University of Rhode Island's Graduate School of Oceanography
NEW YORK - (BUSINESS WIRE) - Dennis Costello, managing partner of Braemar Energy Ventures, a venture
capital fund making early- to mid-stage investments in the energy
technology sector, has been named to the Advisory Council of the
University of Rhode Island's Graduate School of Oceanography in
Narragansett, Rhode Island.
"In becoming involved with URI's Graduate School of Oceanography,
Braemar seeks to gain a deeper understanding of the scientific
interdependency of the world's energy sources, oceans and climate
change," said Dennis Costello, managing partner, Braemar Energy
Ventures. "In turn, Braemar offers academics a look into the business
world and how technology is brought to market for widespread
commercialization. The Advisory Council represents the interface of the
two worlds of science and business."
Braemar Energy Ventures invests in a wide variety of energy-technology
companies, including companies that address carbon sequestration,
replacement or reduction. The University of Rhode Island's Graduate
School of Oceanography is dedicated to extending our understanding of
the ocean and its impacts on the world in which we live through rigorous
scientific research and leading-edge technologies of exploration. As
understanding of the world's oceans develops, it leads to improvements
in many areas including climate prediction, weather forecasting,
environmental protection, fisheries, waste disposal, and the recovery of
oil and minerals.
"The world of research and education in ocean science and technology is
increasingly complex and rapidly changing," said David Farmer, Dean
of the Graduate School of Oceanography. "At the same time the sources
and methods of funding research and education have also been changing
rapidly. It is because of this dynamic environment that the GSO Advisory
Council was created - to provide broad and strategic advice and counsel
on the research, education, technology, outreach, and funding required
to enhance GSO's participation in addressing these complex issues. We
are delighted to have an individual of Dennis Costello's caliber join
the group."
The Advisory Council was established to join men and women of diverse
backgrounds not directly associated with the University. New members
must be nominated by a current member and approved by the School's dean.
