Coffins, Bloody Bandaged Activists Mark 1,000 War Dead in Afghanistan
BERKELEY - Anti-war activists - outfitted in bloody bandages and carrying coffins - will note the 1,000 dead mark for U.S. troops in Afghanistan here Wednesday at a Marine recruiting station.
The protest will take place Wednesday, Feb 24, 12 NOON at the MRS, 64 Shattuck Square.
"We will express our disappointment and outrage at this travesty of electing a president to lead us OUT of war when instead 1,000 US soldiers are dead in Afghanistan, more than 1/3 of these deaths occurring AFTER President Obama took office," said a statement from CodePINK.
On Monday 2/22, US soldier deaths in Afghanistan reached 1,000. The same day, 31 Afghan civilians were murdered by an airstrike that 'went astray.'
"Over two U.S. soldiers a day are being killed now in Afghanistan and this week, the military warned us to expect 500 US deaths per MONTH by this summer, regardless of our billions spent on our superior weapons of war, to defeat the second poorest nation in the world," said CodePINK.
"Stand with CodePINK and other anti-war activists to mourn these useless deaths, to voice our fury with the leaders of this country, to express our deep determination to do whatever we are willing to do to STOP this senseless murdering and escalation of war."
