Philip Bloom, besides being a movie director, has become an internet celebrity recently, by helping thousands of budding videographers get into making quality video with inexpensive tools.
The new Canon 7d camera, while not exactly cheap, is an amazingly high quality camera for a price affordable for most budgets. Philip Bloom was probably the first to investigate and understand the workflow for the camera, and publish it for all to see.
Now, wherever he goes, there is sure to be a group of people wanting to meet him, learn from him and thank him for getting them started.
On Friday morning, he was on his way from London to California, heading for Skywalker Ranch in San Rafael, just north of San Francisco. He made a post on his facebook page.

That simple message had me driving two hours south with Michael and Marisa Sato, to meet Philip. We were hoping there wouldn't be too many people, so we could actually talk to him. Well, that didn't work out too well, because close to 100 other people had the same idea!
It was a great evening, and besides talking to Philip about cameras, we got to see lots of toys, mounted on his 5d with a great f1.2 lens. There was a Beachtek DXA XLR adaptor, a Zacuto z-finder diopter viewfinder, a Holophone Portamic 5.1 pro surround sound microphone, and an amazing tactical shooter shoulder brace.
Philip told us what he is doing next, while we recorded him on my Audio Technica remote mic system on 7d and Michael taking the front view on his 5d.
