US Sympathy on Death of Nodar Kumaritashvili
Gordon Duguid, Acting Deputy Department Spokesman for the State Department in Washington, DC expressed sympathy for the family and friends of Georgian luge athlete, Nodar Kumaritashvili, after he died in a practice run in Vancouver, Canada.
Duguid said:
"On behalf of the Department of State, we wish to express our sympathy and solidarity with the people of Georgia upon the death of Nodar Kumaritashvili.
"Nodar's bright future as a luge athlete for the Georgian national Olympic team was tragically cut short yesterday afternoon during a practice run for his upcoming competition in the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.
"We extend our sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Nodar Kumaritashvili. The United States stands with Georgia as it mourns the loss of a great Olympic athlete.
