A City's Crowd-Sourced Love Story Hits the Web

NEW ORLEANS, Feb. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Today is "Dat Tuesday," and as New Orleans welcomes its Super Bowl heroes home with a joyous victory parade, a fast-moving and clever group of Crescent City interactive programmers and designers have created a tribute web site - www.beinthatnumber.com - that uses social media to automatically find and feature the best Saints-related videos made by legions of fans and followers.

"Beinthatnumber.com is a mash-up of fan-generated content that displays a constantly updating array of videos anticipating, experiencing, and celebrating the New Orleans Saints' first Super Bowl win," explains director of interactive development Jason Van Pelt. "It's designed to showcase the best from the Who Dat Nation and a way to watch the city's collective emotions play out in almost real time."

"The site's really about capturing the immediate outpouring of elation that was bottled-up for over 40 years," adds the site's creator, Peter A. Mayer Executive Creative Director Josh Mayer. "The Saints' win shows that New Orleans is more than just Mardi Gras, Jazz Fest, great gumbo and amazing music. We are world champions. The site reflects our joy."

The programmers developed code for key search words that scour Yahoo! Pipes and the YouTube API to find and feature only the best videos in a dynamic, Flash-generated site. Videos include fans pouring on to Bourbon Street, spontaneous Second Lines and amateur soliloquies about being winners. Constantly updating, the site will feature the latest videos, including an array of content from the parade tonight which is expected to draw huge crowds from around the Gulf South.
