Civil Rights Activist Announces Run for Sacramento City Council Seat
Longtime civil rights activist and Latino community organizer Efren Guttierrez will officially announce his candidacy for the Sacramento City Council, District 1 Tuesday at a major news conference at City Hall.
A NEWS CONFERENCE will be held TUESDAY, Feb. 9, at 10 a.m. at the Mayor Joe Serna Memorial next to old City Hall (East Side). Community organizers will join Guttierrez.
Guttierrez, a Sacramento real estate broker, executive director of the Chicano Consortium and president of La Raza Network of Sacramento, is expected to announce a candidacy to represent "one special interest: the people," and not "big special interests."
Guttierrez, 54, is expected to outline a campaign that will be fueled by those in the community who "truly care more about people than their bottom line."
More details will be provided at the news conference.
