EMERYVILLE, Calif., Feb. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Alibris, the Internet's premier independent marketplace for new and used books, has named the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences, the Burlington County Public Library (NJ), and Everett Community College (WA) as co-winners of the 2010 Alibris Collection Award.

This is the seventh consecutive year that Alibris for Libraries has provided a $3,000 book grant to help supply underfunded libraries with much-needed books, music, and movies. Libraries routinely turn to Alibris to expand their collections, and Alibris for Libraries has now contributed $21,000 worth of collection-development materials to libraries since the award's inception.

The three recipients were chosen from dozens of qualified applicants, who each created online Alibris wishlists of books to enhance their local collections. The books chosen by the winning libraries represent collections designed to:

    -- educate and entertain an emerging senior citizen population, at
        Burlington Public Library;
    -- replace books lost in an arson fire, at Everett Community College; and
    -- support research regarding reptiles, at the North Carolina Museum of
        Natural Sciences.

"Congratulations to this year's Alibris Collection Award winners," said Shelly Stuard, director of Alibris for Libraries. "Particularly during years of decreased funding and increased need, we're proud to support these three organizations' important work. The whole idea is to build better libraries with better books." Stuard explained that Alibris has millions of in-print and out-of-print books, and that librarians are using Alibris more than ever to find just what their collections need: plenty of affordable new and used books that are in-stock and ready to ship.

The distinguished award jury included Toni Garvey, director, Phoenix Public Library; Dr. Mark Sandler, director, Center for Library Initiatives at the Committee on Institutional Cooperation; Dr. Lynn Sutton, dean of the library, Wake Forest University; Jack Walsdorf, retired bookseller and book scholar; Dr. Richard Weatherford, co-founder of Alibris; and the members of the Alibris for Libraries Advisory Board.

Complete details of the award may be found at Alibris for Libraries.
