Kashmir Government Reviews Security Situation
By Fayaz Wani
Srinagar, Feb 7: As the life in Kashmir remained crippled for the 7th day in succession owing to an undeclared curfew, security restrictions and spontaneous strike, a high level meeting of civil and police officers reviewed the overall situation on Sunday.
For the 4th day in succession, authorities enforced an undeclared curfew in some parts of the summer capital Srinagar while in other parts security restrictions were imposed. Hundreds of police and paramilitary personnel were deployed across Kashmir and they were not allowing assembly of more than five persons at a spot.
Kashmir has been on foil since last Sunday after a 13-year old boy, Wamiq Farooq was killed in a police shelling. Later the tension increased on Friday afternoon after Indian border guards allegedly killed a 16-year old boy, Zahid Farooq.
People mostly youth across Kashmir have been staging massive anti-India demonstrations to protest against the killing of the boys.
Meanwhile, a high level meeting of police and civil officials on Sunday reviewed the overall security scenario in Kashmir. The meeting was chaired by Kashmir's law and parliamentary affairs minister Ali Mohammad Sagar.
He asked the concerned authorities to complete the investigation in the unfortunate killing incident of Zahid Farooq within the stipulated time and submit the report so that the culprit is brought to book and dealt under law of the land.
He appealed to the people to maintain calm and help in restoring peace and order which is necessary for the progress of the State. He expressed anguish over exploiting the sentiments of the people and disrupting the normal life which terribly affected vendors, shopkeepers, daily rated labourers, students and public at large.
