Hazmat Shippers Learn Latest DOT, IATA and IMDG Rules at Lion Technology Workshop

Lion Technology HOUSTON, Texas, Feb. 3 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Department of Transportation (DOT) have stepped up enforcement to reduce undeclared and illegal hazmat shipments via airline, truck, rail, and ship. Undeclared shipments of hazardous materials are predominately aerosols and flammable liquids (e.g., paint and paint-related materials), as well as batteries, fireworks, dry ice, perfume products, and cigarette lighters.

Before a hazardous material is transported in commerce, it must be properly classified, described, packaged, marked, and labeled as prescribed by the DOT Hazardous Materials Regulations. The DOT also mandates that all hazmat employees who "directly affect the safety of hazardous materials transportation" be trained and tested on these same regulations. Hazmat employees must have additional training on the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations and the IMDG Code if shipping by air or ocean.

To help the regulated community understand the rules for hazmat shipping, Lion Technology, the nation's leader in regulatory compliance training, is presenting a unique four-day training series on the DOT, IATA, and IMDG regulations. The training will be held in Houston on March 23-26, 2010.

The fee for the two-day workshop is $695 per person. Each additional day is $495 per person. Registration includes hands-on instruction, course reference materials, networking luncheon, and one year of follow-up support services. Group discounts for 3 or more students are available. Sign-in is at 7:30 a.m., with the workshop beginning at 8:30 a.m. and concluding at 4:30 p.m. Pre-registration is recommended. Students can register by phone, (888) 546-6511, or via the Internet at www.lion.com.

The workshops feature in-depth discussions of the DOT Hazardous Materials Regulations and the IATA and IMDG Dangerous Goods Regulations, with an emphasis on the differences between the regulations and the critical components of hazmat shipping, including classification, shipping papers, package selection, package marking and labeling, and record keeping.
