Wish For Our Heroes Grants $25,000 in Military Wishes in First 90 Days

HOUSTON, Feb. 1 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Phoenix Wish For Our Heroes, a non-profit organization that grants wishes for active military, announced today that it has granted nearly 20 wishes totaling more than $25,000, since its inception in November, 2009.

The Foundation strives to relieve hardships not covered by existing military charities. Since the Foundation launched in November, it has aided families in all branches of the Armed Forces, spanning multiple states, and venturing outside the Continental U.S. The total value of the wishes exceeds $25,000, and total donations are approaching $30,000 - quite an accomplishment for a young Foundation, with minimal financial backing.

"We are thrilled we have granted 18 wishes to date, but our goal for 2010 is to grant 15 wishes per month," said Gary Sherman, Vice President of W4OH, and President of The Phoenix Group.

The Phoenix Group and its subsidiary, Phoenix of Texas, a logistics and supply-chain management company in Houston, helped launch the organization by contributing 10% of pretax earnings, and giving employees the option of donating a percentage of their paychecks to the cause.

"We really need help from corporations to take Wish For Our Heroes to the next level," explained President, Jeff Wells. "We are specifically reaching out to Texas businesses, as the majority of our wishes and donations have come from the Lone Star state, and there is a lot of support for our military here. Corporate support is mutually beneficial because it opens doors to larger donations and payroll contributions, and subsequently improves employee morale, knowing their employer supports a worthy cause. Our for-profit businesses recognized helping our nation's heroes was the right thing to do, so we hope other corporations will jump on board."

Over 80 celebrities have supported Wish For Our Heroes by donating signed memorabilia items for auction, and 100% of proceeds go directly to granting wishes, as do all individual contributions. To bid on auction items, make donations, or request a wish, visit www.wish4ourheroes.org.
