TROY, Mich., Jan. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- The Women in Defense (WID) Michigan Chapter recently presented USA / Michigan Cares with a $10,000 check to assist the non-profit in its fundraising efforts to help post-9/11 active-duty U.S. military service personnel, veterans and their families in Michigan with financial and advocacy support during their time of need.

The check was presented at the Inaugural Bocce Ball "Tournament of the Primes" event hosted by WID on Tuesday, Jan. 19 at Palazzo di Bocce in Orion. More than 150 people from defense prime contractors and their suppliers, including AM General, BAE Systems, General Dynamics Land Systems and Oshkosh, took part in the Consortio Development-sponsored event.

"Thanks to the generosity of our Tournament of the Prime participants, challengers and those in attendance, we are very privileged to be able to contribute to an organization like USA / Michigan Cares," said Nancy A. Loerch, president of the WID Michigan Chapter and executive vice president at Archetype Joint, LLC. "The thousands of dollars raised will go to assist the soldiers, veterans and families who have sacrificed so much."

"Events like this allow Americans to share in the sacrifices bore by our military and their families," said James Marquardt, board member and co-founder of USA Cares. "I'm consistently moved by the compassion of those that continue to make it possible for USA Cares to assist these brave warriors and their families."
