AFSCME's Garrett: Ficano's Priorities Are Appalling!

DETROIT, Jan. 22 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Albert Garrett, President of Michigan Council 25 of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME), AFL-CIO, issued the following statement:

"The manner in which Wayne County Executive Robert Ficano has announced weekly furlough days for Wayne County employees raises serious questions regarding his motives and intentions," stated Garrett.

"Ficano has failed to give proper required notice of layoffs to AFSCME, and did not meet with the Union regarding these proposed furlough days," continued Garrett. "We are appalled that he would resort to such underhanded, unethical and potentially illegal tactics.

"In addition, Ficano is once again planning the county's purchase of another building - this time, the former MGM Grand casino," noted Garrett. "He is planning to buy another palace, while cutting the hours and pay of county workers by 20 percent until further notice.

"We can only join the other taxpayers and voters of Wayne County in questioning Ficano's priorities and his judgment," concluded Garrett. "Wayne County and county employees deserve better than this!"
