Allegheny Power Offers Programs to Help Customers in Maryland
GREENSBURG, Pa. - (BUSINESS WIRE) - Allegheny Power, the electric delivery business of Allegheny Energy,
Inc. (NYSE: AYE), announces the availability of its portfolio of
energy efficiency and conservation plans to help customers save energy
and meet the goals of the EmPOWER Maryland Energy Efficiency Act. The
act calls for a 15 percent reduction in electricity consumption by 2015.
Designed to reach all of Allegheny's Maryland customers, the new Watt
Watchers programs target major energy-consuming systems such as heating,
air conditioning, appliances, lighting, and manufacturing processes.
Watt Watchers is Allegheny Power's initiative to help customers learn
more about saving energy and money.
Customers can realize significant savings on their electric bills,
depending on their level of participation in the programs.
"Our new Watt Watchers programs provide powerful tools for residential
and business customers alike to actively manage their energy consumption
and control their electric bills," said Rodney Dickens, President of
Allegheny Power. "These programs can also make Maryland a cleaner and
greener place to live and help maintain a reliable electric supply."
Approved by the Maryland Public Service Commission, the programs include:
-
Rebates for the purchase of high efficiency appliances, lighting,
heating and cooling systems;
-
Residential home audits and rebates toward implementing audit
recommendations;
-
Rebates for the recycling of old working room air conditioners,
refrigerators and freezers;
-
Home audit, energy-efficiency and weatherization services for
low-income customers; and
-
Efficient lighting, heat pumps, air conditioning systems, and other
offerings for commercial, industrial and government customers.
The programs are funded through a monthly EmPOWER charge tailored to
each customer rate schedule. For residential customers using 1,000
kilowatts of electricity per month, the monthly cost of these programs
in 2010 is 63 cents per month. Energy savings from participating in the
programs will help offset the charge.
The residential programs have been fully deployed and available for
several months; programs for commercial and industrial customers are now
available.
Allegheny has mailed a rebate booklet to each of its 220,000 Maryland
residential customers containing details on how to participate in the
new Watt Watchers programs, and rebate forms. For more information on
the programs and tips on using energy wisely, visit the Watt Watchers
area of the company's Web site at www.alleghenypower.com
