Attacks on Tea Party Movement Backfire!
Scott Brown campaign surged during period that Coakley campaign & allies attacked Tea Party movement.
The attempt by Democrat's to smear the Tea Party movement and play the "guilt-by-association" game on Republican Scott Brown appears to have failed.
No matter what the final outcome of the eleciton tonight, one thing is clear. During the time that Democrats raised the issue, Brown surged from being narrowly behind to as much as 5% - 9% ahead in the polls.
The Democrat's Senatorial Campaign Committee website declared that "Scott Brown stands with the Tea Party movement" - and documented support of Scott Brown by the Tea Party Express as if this were somehow a bad thing.. Citation: http://www.dscc.org/brownlies/
The SEIU labor union also went up with a TV ad campaign calling the Tea Party Patriots (which is an honorable group of grassroots activists) an "extremist group." Citation: http://www.seiu.org/2010/01/seiu-members-expose-the-real-scott-brown-1.php
Perhaps Massachusetts Democrats should listen to the liberal Mayor of San Francisco, who told today's San Francisco Chronicle:
"This is real," he said. "At our own peril, we dismiss these tea parties as ... some sort of isolated extremism. ... It's not."
"Coakley's campaign and her liberal allies miscalculated. They thought that they could win this race by demonizing the Tea Party movement. What they failed to understand was that it is the issues that we in the Tea Party movement have been advancing that caused Indpendents to turn away from the Democrats today," said Mark Williams, Chairman of the Tea Party Express.
The Tea Party Express launched an approximately $350,000 Independent Expenditure campaign supporting Scott Brown. Unlike other TV ads aired in this election, the Tea Party Express did not launch a negative campaign smearing Martha Coakley, but instead commented on the failures in Congress and positively affirmed support for Scott Brown: http://paracom.paramountcommunication.com/ct/3837223:5650264653:m:3:119566517:81302D0701E6F17D6FDFB246F85C596B
The Tea Party Express (www.TeaPartyExpress.org) is proud to be a part of an enthusiastic and effective grassroots campaign for Scott Brown, who is on the verge of taking a seat back from the clenched fist liberals who have controlled it for decades. Scott Brown is aligned with the Tea Party ideals. He supports free enterprise, opposes tax increases, and most importantly, opposes a government-run takeover of healthcare.
The 350,000+ members and supporters of the Tea Party Express, along with grassroots supporters across the country, have not been fooled by the bitter mud-slinging waged by Democrats and the Martha Coakley campaign. We know that Scott Brown represents our values, and are going to continue the fight to support he and other conservative candidates!
