Fareed Zakaria's PhD Not in Danger
Comment on story Buddha is Synonymous With Nepal (Faith Never Fades Away)
Dear Kamala,
Thanks for your lyric article!
My thoughts are:
1. Dr Zakaria's comments didn't create controversy among anyone except yourself and maybe some Nepali brahmin politico's.
2. Certainly few ordinary Nepalis were offended, as most can't read.
3. If you think this will upset world relations with China, I am amazed.
4. At the time of Lord Buddha's birth there was no India and certainly no state of Nepal. His father was the King of his Own state, which family was named Sakya. But the ancient area was certainly that which is presently referred to as India in a generic, NOT national sense.
5. The lechavi kingdom at the time, and subsequant Malla dynasties were centered around Kathmandu.
Let me know what you think.
I don't think the good Dr's PhD is in danger!
best wishes, John A. Hoag
