Global Solar Energy Unveils First Thin Film Solar Charger with USB Connection

TUCSON, Ariz. - (BUSINESS WIRE) - Global Solar Energy, Inc., the premier manufacturer of Copper Indium Gallium diSelenide (CIGS) thin film solar products, today introduced universal serial bus (USB) enabled SUNLINQTM portable solar chargers to its line up. The SUNLINQ line is the only solution for portable solar power for any type of outdoor needs. This new feature charges and powers batteries for any mobile electronic device capable of connecting and charging via a USB interface, allowing consumers to keep their devices charged and ready to use at any time, from any location.

Equipped with high efficiency flexible solar cells, Global Solar's SUNLINQ USB MiniTM and SUNLINQ USB PlusTM solar chargers are lightweight, convenient and easy to use. They deliver reliable solar power generation for any device with a USB port including mobile phones, PDAs, iPods, and electronic readers like the Kindle. Unlike most solar chargers which rely on an integrated battery to store power, the USB Mini and Plus solar chargers deliver energy directly to the device's battery, providing a faster and more efficient charge.

The SUNLINQ USB Mini and SUNLINQ USB Plus bring a host of features and capabilities for the mobile consumer and professional, including:

  • Extremely Portable: Global Solar's lightweight, flexible solar cells mean the charger itself can be laid out or attached to better optimize sunlight and make for easier carrying.
  • Rugged Design: Originally designed to meet military specs, all of Global Solar Energy's portable chargers offer a tough, weather resistant, nylon rip-stop backing.
  • Voltage Regulation: Standardized to 5V to meet USB charging specifications.
  • High Efficiency: SUNLINQ portable chargers power even under cloudy or overcast skies, making it the ideal solar charger for any region or outdoor activity.

"The proliferation of power hungry portable electronics and our mobile society continue to drive demand for lightweight portable solar chargers to deliver power on the go, wherever you are," says Jim Kimbrough, North American sales manager for Global Solar. "With the addition of our SUNLINQ USB Mini and Plus Global Solar can address the growing list of more than two billion electronic devices capable of charging via USB technology."

Global Solar has been delivering lightweight, portable solar chargers for ten years. The USB Mini and Plus solar chargers are designed for consumers who can simply plug the USB adapter provided with their device directly into the SUNLINQ's standard USB A-type receptacle, eliminating the need to purchase a separate car charger adapter for connectivity and charging.

Pricing and Availability

The SUNLINQ USB Mini and USB Plus solar chargers are available to consumers, select resellers and qualified manufacturers. About CIGS Thin-Film Technology

Global Solar Energy, Inc., has developed a proprietary process for manufacturing thin-film CIGS photovoltaic (PV) cells and modules. Global Solar is the only company reliably producing CIGS that can be encapsulated in either traditional glass modules or in a flexible laminate. CIGS creates more electricity from the same amount of sunlight compared to other thin-film PV technologies. This higher "conversion efficiency" leads to lower cost. CIGS conversion efficiency is extremely stable over time; performance continues unabated for many years.

About Global Solar Energy, Inc.

Global Solar Energy, Inc., is a solar industry leader that manufactures highly-efficient thin-film solar cells for glass module or flexible material products. Global Solar is the only Copper Indium Gallium diSelenide (CIGS) manufacturer in full-scale production on a flexible substrate and has achieved ten percent average solar cell efficiency. Its thin-film CIGS strings are not dependent on silicon and instead use highly-available raw materials that are easily integrated into a wide range of applications for use in commercial, residential, utility-scale and government products.
