New Year's Resolution: Escaped Auto Thief Surrenders
Early Wednesday (12/30) morning a Folsom Police officer was patrolling the area of Willowmere Drive and Montrose Drive when he observed an occupied suspicious red Honda Civic. As the patrol vehicle approached the Civic, it drove away.
Before the officer could stop the vehicle, the Civic pulled into a school parking lot and the driver and passenger ran away. After a brief foot pursuit of the driver, the driver disappeared in Ed Mitchell Park. After an intensive search of the area, a search for the driver and passenger was called off.
Further investigation revealed the vehicle had been stolen a few blocks away, but the theft had not yet been discovered by the owner. The involved officers began their vehicle theft investigation with few leads other than a basic suspect description.
Sunday afternoon officers were dispatched back to Ed Mitchell Park. It appeared guilt had set in, and the juvenile perpetrator decided the right way to start the New Year would be to admit last year's misgivings.
The suspect, from Citrus Heights, dramatically waited for officers to arrive by standing dead center of a soccer field in the park. He was forthright with officers regarding the crime, and associated vehicle burglaries he used the stolen vehicle to commit.
The juvenile was arrested for auto theft and multiple counts of vehicle burglary and booked at the Sacramento County Juvenile Detention Center.
Names and photos of juvenile suspect(s) are withheld.
