Austin-Based Business Co-Sponsors Gastric Feat for Charity
AUSTIN, Texas, Dec. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Austin's Custom Tops, a local business specializing in granite and eco-friendly countertops, co-sponsored, with Ryan Gray and Hill Country Home Health, a slider-eating throwdown at the neighborhood restaurant 219 West on Wednesday, December 9th. Fifty people showed up to cheer on the two brave contestants who ate their way through platefuls of sliders in support of the local charity, The Austin Children's Shelter.
What started as a casual bet over who could eat the most burgers became an act of charity to help local children in need this holiday season. Organizer and co-sponsor Ryan Gray of Hill Country Home Health, helped dish out additional funds by garnering the support of Austin's Custom Tops. Eric Riley, co-owner of the local countertop company, jumped at the chance to co-sponsor the event. "I enjoy helping local Austinites anyway I can, especially this time of year; and what better time to help out children than around the holidays," says Riley.
The winner of the slider-eating contest, Josh Bryer, managed to devour thirty sliders before reluctantly calling it quits. It seemed to be more worth the belly ache since it was not only for gastronomical prowess, but also for a good cause.
