Assistant Secretary of Defense for Reserve Affairs visits troops in Iraq

CAMP LIBERTY, Iraq - Command Sgt. Maj. Ricky Elcan of St. Louis Mo., the senior enlisted advisor to the 620th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, 96th Sustainment Brigade, 13th Sustainment Command (Expeditionary) shakes hands with Dennis McCarthy, the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Reserve Affairs.
McCarthy was in Iraq to speak with Reserve and National Guard Soldiers about issues they may be facing during their deployment.
A retired Marine Lieutenant General, Dennis McCarthy began his Marine Corps service in 1967 as a platoon leader in Vietnam, and completed it in 2005 as Commander of Marine Forces Reserve, after leading that force for four years. His command included 100,000 active duty and reserve Marines at 187 locations around the country. He was responsible for setting the conditions that enabled Marines to successfully serve their nation in combat in Iraq, Afghanistan and around the world.
