Chris Hughes, Co-Founder of Facebook, Launches the Tech Council of Maryland's New Speaker Series

The Tech Council of Maryland (TCM) kicked off its new TECHknowledge Speaker Series as over 200 top executives gathered to network and hear from Chris Hughes, co-founder of Facebook and developer of My.BarackObama.com. Hughes talked about his experiences at Facebook, the power of social networking and the use of social media in President Obama's campaign.

"Our new TECHknowledge Speaker Series is dedicated to bringing in top level speakers to the area," said Renée Winsky, TCM Chief Executive Officer. "Chris Hughes' presentation was the perfect start to our Speaker Series. How to harness the power of social media, including Facebook, is an important topic for our members as they try to leverage this new form of communication, not only as a business tool, but in their everyday lives."

Other key points delivered during Hughes' keynote address were: a new information revolution has begun and is changing the way the world communicates and interacts. Social media Web sites, like Facebook, are creating digital imprints of users' feelings, actions and comments turning them into information, which is the heart of this new information revolution. Because of this, businesses now have opportunities to hear customers in real time situations and react.

The Tech Council of Maryland would like to thank our Title Sponsor PNC, as well as BroadPoint Technologies and Boost Labs, who through their generosity made this event possible.

"This is a particularly important event for PNC, the Tech Council of Maryland and our region because Chris Hughes is one of the world's most creative and innovative business people," said Wayne Hunley, Corporate Banking Regional Executive for PNC Bank. "As a leading technology bank, we have immense respect for a service that has quickly attracted over 300 million users. Chris Hughes personifies what technology is truly about."
