Outsource Channel Executives Inc. Survey Reveals Most Recession-Proof Technology Sales of 2009 and Predicted Winners for 2010
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - (BUSINESS WIRE) - Despite the recession, sales of virtualization, storage, server and
security solutions increased significantly in 2009, and these product
categories are expected to see accelerated sales in 2010. The findings
are part of a new survey of more than 400 high-tech vendors,
distributors and resellers from Outsource Channel Executives (OCE) Inc.
In general, respondents were optimistic about 2010. At the low-end, 28%
of survey participants projected that personal computers would see sales
growth, while an overwhelming majority-80% of respondentsâexpected to
see increased sales for virtualization. No one predicted sales declines
for the coming year.
OCE
conducted the survey to support its comprehensive channel enablement and
training programs for the technology industry. A full report of the OCE
"State of the Channel 2010" survey results will be published in January
2010.
"The reported technology sales growth in our State of the Channel 2010
survey is one more indicator that the economy is moving from recession
to recovery, and now is the time to capitalize on that opportunity,"
says Mark
S. A. Smith, OCE co-founder, content and delivery. "For technology
vendors, distributors and resellers, that means investing in competitive
intelligence, sales education, and marketing-and re-engaging with
customers to serve as a trusted advisor in updating and extending their
technology deployments."
Top 10 Sectors Seeing Sales Gains: 2009-2010
Among survey respondents, four product categories emerged as having the

reported growth in 2009, 72% predicted it for 2010), servers (45%
reported growth in 2009, 54% predicted it for 2010), and security (37%
reported growth in 2009, 55% predicted it for 2010).

services have also seen strong growth according to the OCE survey. Among
respondents, 50% reported sales gains in 2009 while 69% projected growth
