CCPM is Shocked and Gravely Disappointed with Additional Delay to Affordable Life-Saving Biologics
WASHINGTON - (BUSINESS WIRE) - The Coalition for a Competitive Pharmaceutical Market (CCPM)
is voicing serious concern in response to the extension of biologics
exclusivity included in The
Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (H.R.3590) introduced
Wednesday night by Senate Majority Leader Harry
Reid.
"Congress missed a critical opportunity to bend the long-term cost curve
of health care through a workable pathway for biogenerics," said Annette
Guarisco, CCPM Chairman. "Despite numerous economic studies, widespread
media attention, patient outcry, and the support of the Administration
for a more balanced approach, the Senate Health Care Reform bill went in
the opposite direction by adding additional exclusivity to the already
unacceptable 12 years of market exclusivity for brand products. They
continue to overlook the irrefutable opportunity to truly constrain
costs to benefit patients and purchasers."
CCPM supports public policies that facilitate timely access to
affordable pharmaceuticals. Visit www.BiogenericsGetTheFacts.org

are underway to tell Congress to prioritize patients and consumers -
not drug company profits.
