SAN DIEGO - (BUSINESS WIRE) - The ABC of San Diego recognizes the outstanding contributions of its members to the San Diego Construction Industry through the Excellence In Construction Awards Program. Echo Pacific Construction, Inc. is pleased to announce the receipt of the Excellence In Construction Award of Merit for the Pomerado Elementary School modernization.

Echo Pacific Construction, one of San Diego's premiere construction companies, along with Poway Unified School District and NTD Architecture, has demonstrated its expertise and commitment to the Poway community by completing the modernization of Pomerado Elementary School. The school is the oldest in the District, constructed in 1961. The 8 month fast track project included a new Administration/Library building, a new service kitchen, modernization of 29 classrooms, a multi-purpose building and 2 acres of new site amenities. This Lease/Lease Back project value was $14M with the project totaling 49,000 sq. ft.

The 8 month schedule had to be maintained with minimal disruption to the campus since Pomerado Elementary is home to several special needs classes. The project called for complete abatement of all interior hazardous materials and the demolition of all finishes down to studs. New infrastructure included moving all power from the roofs to underground, rewiring all classroom power, new data and fire alarm, lighting, and intercom systems. A complete HVAC overhaul with hybrid rooftop units and all new ductwork and controls brought the campus up to the new efficiency standards. New ceilings, flooring, drywall, tackboard and casework completed the classrooms.

"The success of this project does not belong to Echo Pacific alone. The team as a whole, Poway Unified, Pinnacle One, NTD Architecture, our subcontractors and the school staff all contributed equally to the delivery of this exceptional project," said company President Christopher Rowe.

"With Echo Pacific's care and attention to detail, the school was transformed from a facility showing its age to a contemporary building equal to the newest schools in the District. All who see the new school comment not only on the improved aesthetics, but also on the improved feeling of permanence and sustainability. This seemingly new school owes a debt of gratitude to the care and teamwork exercised in planning, designing and construction of the new Pomerado," said Doug Mann, Executive Director of Facilities for the Poway Unified School District.

Echo Pacific Construction, Inc. is headquartered in Escondido, California. The company builds projects for both public and private entities throughout Southern California, including institutional structures of many types, facilities for fire and safety, parks and recreation, and religious facilities. Echo Pacific was awarded 2007 & 2008 "Excellence in Construction Awards" by the ABC San Diego Chapter, 2009 Build San Diego Award of Merit by the AGC of San Diego and was recognized as the 2007 Contractor of the Year by the AGC of San Diego.
