KAZ Announces Voluntary Safety Recall of Honeywell Ceramic Heater
Kaz, Inc. today announced a voluntary safety
recall of the Honeywell Quick Heat Ceramic Heater Model #HZ-316C. The
heater is manufactured by Kaz under license from Honeywell. Consumers
should stop using the recalled heater immediately. This model heater is
only available in Canada and was distributed between July 1, 2009 and
October 30, 2009. No other heater models under the Honeywell brand are
affected.
Name of Product: Honeywell Ceramic Heater Model #HZ-316C
Units Affected by Recall: Approximately 84,000

Issue: Kaz found that the front plate of the heater can detach, exposing
the internal potentially hot parts and/or circuitry of the heater. This
condition affects only one heater model with certain date codes, shipped
only to Canada.
Incidents/Injuries: No injuries or adverse events have been reported. This
is a voluntary recall for a product malfunction that has a small likelihood
of causing an adverse event.
Description: This recall involves Honeywell Heater Model #HZ-316C.
Consumers can determine if their heater is the HZ316C unit by checking the
rear right hand corner of the unit. The model number will be embossed in
the plastic casing. If their heater is a HZ316C, consumers should check the
date code of the unit. To do this, unplug the unit and look at the plug's
prongs. On one of the prongs, consumers will see the five digit date code
stamped into the steel. The first three digits will range between 120 and
300; the last two digits will be 09 (see image). If the date code is in
this range, the product should be returned to Kaz.
