Citymeals-on-Wheels Honors Joan H. Tisch and Joan Weill at Annual Power Lunch for Women

  Share With Friends

NEW YORK, Nov. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- A veritable who's who from the worlds of business, media, entertainment, government, publishing and the arts will gather at Cipriani 42nd Street on Friday, November 20th to honor Joan H. Tisch, Vice Chair, Citymeals-on-Wheels and Joan Weill, Citymeals' President Emeritus, at the Citymeals-on-Wheels 23rd annual "Power Lunch for Women." This by-invitation-only benefit, emceed by Paula Zahn, will raise enough money to provide 150,000 meals for New York's frail homebound aged. Kate Baldwin, star of Finian's Rainbow, will perform.

"Today, New York City's most powerful women remind us how significant power can become when joined with compassion and generosity," said Marcia Stein, executive director of Citymeals-on-Wheels. "Thanks to Joan Tisch, Joan Weill and all the power women here today, our homebound elderly neighbors will sleep well knowing that the familiar knock on the door from Citymeals means a friendly face and a nutritious meal."

Honored for their long-standing commitment to Citymeals, Joan Tisch and Joan Weill have helped shape the past, present, and future of Citymeals. As Vice Chair of the Citymeals' Board, Joan Tisch has stepped seamlessly into the shoes of the organization's late Chairman, her husband, Bob. She has assumed an important leadership role and her gracious generosity has helped keep Citymeals on its feet during the recent fiscal crisis.

As the organization's former president, Joan Weill helped to create the nation's very first public-private partnership in the early 1990s when she led the effort to take Citymeals from its place as a New York City government program to a private non-profit organization. The strong relationships Citymeals-on-Wheels shares today with the nation's top chefs and restaurateurs are, in great part, due to the bonds she forged so many years ago.

One hundred percent of the money raised at the Power Lunch, and all Citymeals' events, goes to the preparation and delivery of nutritious meals to homebound elderly in the five boroughs of New York City.

Among the event sponsors are The Tisch Family Foundation, Cipriani 42nd Street, Travelers, Bobbi Brown Cosmetics, Bernardaud, Bloomingdale's, Les Vins Georges Duboeuf, and La Prairie. Official sponsors of Citymeals-on-Wheels are American Airlines, FIJI Water, and Nespresso.
