NORTHBROOK, Ill., Nov. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Underwriters Laboratories (UL), a leader in product safety testing and certification services for more than 115 years, is spearheading a national safety campaign to help consumers protect their families and their homes this holiday season.

UL has partnered with actress and mom, Keri Russell, to provide safety tips to help families keep the holidays safe and bright. This national campaign provides consumers with simple and practical ways to make their homes safe by ensuring their holiday lights, decorations and other electrical products have the UL Mark. UL engineers and scientists perform thousands of tests on products every day ranging from electric appliances and outlets to environmental claims on water and plastics.

"I'm proud to be part of an ongoing partnership with UL to give consumers easy tips to make their homes safer throughout the holidays and year-round," said Keri Russell. "It's reassuring to have a checklist for protecting your home and family, especially at a time of year when you don't want safety to be an added worry. The UL Mark is another simple way to know your home and family are protected, and as a parent, that gives me peace of mind."

Giving consumers easy access to valuable safety information is a key goal of the campaign, and to ensure safety is available when they want it, UL created its microsite - www.SafetyAtHome.com. On the site, consumers can learn more about UL and get home safety tips to share with their family and friends. Visitors can also take a safety quiz, become a Facebook fan and give the gift of safety to others, follow UL on Twitter and send interactive holiday cards. The holiday campaign also features a partnership with HouseParty® that kicks-off on November 21st that will include 1,000 safety parties in the homes of families across the country. Additionally, the campaign will include national print advertising in parenting and entertainment magazines, sponsorships of holiday tree lightings in Chicago and Washington, D.C., dedicated content for ABC Family's "25 Days of Christmas" programming and ABCFamily.com, as well as holiday program integrations on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

"During the holidays, UL reminds consumers to look for the UL Mark on decorations, lights and electronics," said John Drengenberg, Director of Consumer Safety at Underwriters Laboratories. "But safety isn't just a seasonal job. Throughout the year there are simple ways consumers can help keep their homes safe like covering outlets, childproofing windows and stairs and keeping fire extinguishers handy."
