PHOENIX, Nov. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- The U.S. Census Bureau and Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) today unveiled two new facilities in Phoenix, Ariz., to support the data capture efforts required for the 2010 Census.

The 212,000-square-foot Phoenix Data Capture Center facility at 4427 West Buckeye Road in Phoenix, Ariz., will house approximately 2,500 professionals who will be supporting a broad spectrum of services related to 2010 Census data capture efforts. The Phoenix Call Center is located at 8900 22nd Avenue in Phoenix, Ariz., and will employ approximately 330 professionals to handle both inbound and outbound calling activities to support the 2010 Census data capture efforts. Each of the facilities is an integral element in Lockheed Martin's efforts to deliver the people, process, technology and infrastructure for the 2010 Census.

The facilities will be operated by Lockheed Martin's subcontract partner, Vangent, which will also manage the hiring efforts for the two locations. Skills required for the Data Capture Center include data entry keyers, sorter and scanner operators, mail receipt and mail handlers and document sorting and preparation. Keyers at the Data Capture Center must type 30-words-per-minute; minimum accuracy standards apply. The Call Center needs Customer Service Representatives who are fluent in English and type 20-words-per-minute; minimum accuracy standards apply. Call center experience is preferred. Fluency in Spanish is a plus. All applicants must pass a suitability background check, have a high school diploma or equivalent and be legally able to work in the U.S.

Recruiting for these facilities has already begun, and both operations should be at full capacity by March 2010, according to company officials. Those interested in employment opportunities should apply online at www.Vangent.com.

In a ceremony today at the Phoenix Data Capture Center, officials of the U.S. Census Bureau and Lockheed Martin Information Systems & Global Services were joined by Vangent President and CEO Mac Curtis and others to officially open the building by cutting a ribbon. The ceremony included federal, state and city officials at the event.

"We express our many thanks to all those who have helped make this partnership with the Census Bureau a reality. These include the many government agencies represented here today, the good people of Phoenix, the colleges and universities and our employees who every day prove they can deliver on our promises better and more successfully," said Darrell Graddy, Vice President of Lockheed Martin Information Systems and Global Services-Civil. "We are proud to continue supporting the Census Bureau as it strives to paint the newest portrait of America."
