Generation for Change Launches With Endorsement of Jerry Brown
LOS ANGELES, Nov. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Generation for Change (G4C), an L.A.-based grassroots organization devoted to progressive causes, will host California AG Jerry Brown and a select gathering of young professionals on November 19th. The event will give Brown exposure to a vital young audience, serve as a kickoff for the broadened mission of G4C, and celebrate the group's newly announced endorsement of Brown for Governor. Given G4C's history, Brown can expect the support to carry weight with a key California voting bloc.
During last year's Presidential campaign, Generation Obama Los Angeles galvanized a movement of the young and young-at-heart across California, rallying thousands of new supporters and raising over one million dollars for Obama for America. The organization has transformed into Generation for Change, putting the same spirit to work for common progress in public policy and local communities. Jerry Brown is glad to see G4C making use of hard won momentum. "In America and across California, young people and grassroots activism can come together to win elections. It's the energy and ingenuity of Generation for Change that's helping to make that a reality and move our state forward. I'm proud to have their support."
While November 19th will mark G4C's inaugural event, action has already begun with an official endorsement of Brown, who recently formed an exploratory committee for the 2010 Gubernatorial campaign:
"Generation for Change believes that we have a chance not just to help save the state, but to reclaim California's reputation as a national and global leader on everything from Education to Climate Change to New Economy jobs. The clearest path is to do all we can to make Jerry Brown the next Governor of California. With his steady hand, clear vision and perpetual optimism at the helm, California can and will be made great again."
The event is an opportunity for L.A.'s newest generation of leaders -- the influential young professionals, taste makers and activists who established their demographic as a driving force in 2008 -- to get a chance to know Brown, who governed the state in the 1970s and early 80s.
"One thing that was made clear on November 3rd of this year," said G4C Co-Chair Justyn Winner, "is that an absence of strong turnout and engagement by younger voters can influence the outcome of elections. We think Jerry Brown clearly understands the importance of mobilizing our demographic."
"Jerry Brown has a record of foresight on key issues, and his message will resonate with our peers," said one of Winner's co-chairs Haroon "Boon" Saleem. "That's the conclusion our leadership came to after a lengthy vetting process. We took the time to really research the field and had meetings with Jerry and other contenders. Hearing what Jerry had to say made the decision much easier for us. We're eager for our members and friends to have the same opportunity to meet Jerry and make that connection for themselves."
G4C will introduce Brown to the invite-only crowd at XIV, the type of premier Los Angeles night spot where they helped generate historic political enthusiasm last year. In its first major event since the Presidential election, the organization is ready to rekindle the flame for Brown.
"Jerry recognizes how crucial the future of this state is to young voters, and he's uniquely well-equipped to bring a better day for all Californians," said Winner. "That's why G4C is encouraging him to run."
