Information Security Program Gives Professionals Step-by-Step Guide to Comply with State & Federal Security Laws
HAMPTON, N.H. - (BUSINESS WIRE) - ProTracker
Software, Inc., has introduced its Information Security Program (ISP),
a step-by-step guide to help professionals stay informed and comply with
recent federal and state regulatory changes. The implementation of a
complete ISP requires a thorough review of an entire IT environment so
companies will be in compliance with the law. Most importantly, the ISP
Manual minimizes the risk of a security breach that could be costly and
devastating to a business.
The ISP Manual was developed from the stringent Massachusetts
regulations (201 CMR 17.00), which has the most strict regulations
in New England that affect virtually every business in the region. This
law requires that, if you have personal information on one or more
Massachusetts citizens, you must implement the Massachusetts law - even
if you are in New Hampshire, Maine or anywhere else in the country.
"As a result of an onslaught of security breaches, many states are
rapidly enacting information security program laws that significantly
impact the way client personal information should be handled," said
Warren J. Mackensen, President of ProTracker Software. It is critical
that professionals who work with client personal information follow the
steps outlined in our ISP Manual to ensure they're in compliance to
protect themselves and their clients."
The ISP Manual was designed for CPAs, lawyers, IT consultants, and
record destruction vendors who all handle sensitive client personal
information. Professionals are unintentionally negligent when it comes
to information security and mistakenly feel secure storing client
personal information and emailing password-protected files. Hackers can
more easily gain access to confidential information and security
breaches are more common, causing major issues, unwanted costs, and loss
of client loyalty.
The ISP Manual advocates proactive steps companies should take to become
compliant, facilitates the implementation of federal and state privacy
rules and regulations, and outlines how to:
-
Identify administrative, technical and physical risks associated with
personal information security.
-
Assess the security of servers, networks, laptops, flash drives,
portable hard drives, and personal digital assistants (PDAs).
-
Implement e-mail encryption procedures to assure the security of
personal information.
-
Train employees in information security procedures.
-
Respond to a data loss incident.
-
Conduct the required annual program review.
-
Terminate employee access to personal information.
"The days of password-protecting a PDF file containing personal
information and sending it as an email attachment are over," said David
Hodgdon, President of Portsmouth Computer Group. "The ISP Manual from
ProTracker Software covers everything from soup to nuts, which is why we
work so closely with Warren J. Mackensen to provide details about the
new regulations and the increased security measures recommended for a
solid Information Security Program."
