NXP System Basis Chips Bring New Levels of Performance to In-Vehicle Networks

EINDHOVEN, Netherlands - (BUSINESS WIRE) - NXP Semiconductors today announced the release of the UJA107x family, its second generation of CAN/LIN System Basis Chips (SBCs) for in-vehicle networks. The UJA107x SBCs optimize the performance, power consumption and cost of electronic control units (ECUs) for a broad range of automotive applications, such as body control modules, climate control, seat control, electric power steering (EPS), adaptive lighting, rain/light sensors, parking assistance and transmission.

Featuring NXP's industry-leading CAN and LIN transceivers, as well as a scalable voltage regulator for the on-board microcontroller and peripherals, the SBCs offer a very high level of integration, performance and scalability. In addition, the UJA107x SBC family offers a high level of ESD protection and excellent EMC performance, addressing stringent OEM requirements for reliability, while at the same time contributing to the reduction of fuel consumption and thus reduction of CO2 emissions by featuring extremely low stand-by and quiescent currents.

"New cars today have over 50 ECUs on board, making it imperative for OEMs to select solutions that are compact, cost-efficient and reliable over the long term," said Rob Bouwer, international product marketing manager, NXP Semiconductors. "With our second-generation SBCs, we've been able to build on the proven track record of our popular CAN and LIN transceivers, as well as the success of our first-generation Fail-Safe SBCs. The UJA107x family addresses the key requirements of major Tier 1 suppliers with a robust, highly flexible offering that will go a long way in helping our customers and car makers bring advanced safety and comfort features to vehicles in all segments of the worldwide automotive market."

NXP offers the widest range of variants in a single family of SBCs, which are pin-to-pin compatible and share the same compact Dark Green HTSSOP32 package. All UJA107x SBCs can be offered with a 5V or 3.3V power supply, and with or without a watchdog, for optimal fit. The new family of SBCs include:

  • UJA1078, a HS-CAN and dual LIN/J2602 SBC
  • UJA1075, a HS-CAN and LIN/J2602 SBC
  • UJA1076, a HS-CAN SBC
  • UJA1079, a LIN/J2602 SBC

The NXP SBCs vastly simplify ECU design and layout, reducing required board space, and improving quality and reliability, while significantly reducing the overall bill of materials.

Technical Information

Key features of the versatile NXP UJA107x SBC family include:

  • ISO11898-2 and ISO11898-5 compliant HS-CAN transceiver
  • LIN2.1, LIN2.0 and J2602 compliant LIN transceiver
  • A scalable voltage regulator (V1) for microcontroller (3V3 or 5V) and peripherals
  • Very low Standby mode current of 75µA typ. with V1 active
  • Sleep mode current of 55 µA typ.
  • High ESD protection (± 6kV according to IEC61000-4-2) on CAN/LIN and wake pins
  • 2 wake-up ports with cyclic biasing option
  • Excellent EMC performance for robust, interference-free operation in the car
  • Limp Home
  • Compact Dark Green HTSSOP32 package

The scalable voltage regulator is unique to NXP and supports a 250mA output current, as well as an external PNP for heat distribution, which designers can place anywhere on the PCB.
